An Open Letter to Steve Jobs: Push Ahead with the Intel Move
[The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)] If the delay in the projected switchover to Intel-based Macs has nothing to do with contracts with IBM, inability to produce the hardware now, and other distribution related issues, but rather, simply a stalling tactic to give the developers time to transition, then perhaps if more voices like Davidson's come to the fore, Steve and Apple might decide to begin their innovation a little sooner than originally predicted.
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[QuirksBlog] Ajax, promise or hype?: Giving a common name to a solution to a problem. If you were talking to a developer and you said "I'm going to make a form then when a user clicks I'm going to use some javascript to send a message to my server then that'll trigger a javascript function that changes some CSS values so I can show the user something new without refreshing the page." Thats a mouthful. How about just saying "I'm going to implement this form via AJAX so no refreshing is needed" Now I know exactly what you're trying to do in one short sentence.
[Blog.ziffdavis.com] Everything You Know Is Wrong!: There is a LOT MORE involved in porting an app from one chip architecture to an entirely different one than just clicking a little checkbox when you compile your app. And that option is only available when using Apple's Xcode environment (I don't know why an OS X developer would use anything else these days, but anyway...), so going forward it shouldn't be a big deal to write NEW Mac apps that will run on both PowerPC and Intel processors, but old Mac staples like Photoshop and Word will need A LOT of surgery to get on the Mac Intel boat. Hopefully this will FINALLY bring the death of Quark...
