[Thought Flickr's] 2Day's- IT Chatter-Oct28th: Dave gives this interesting insight !! "Jason Kottke in September guessed that Google is building its own browser. Slashdot got all slashdotty on that idea's ass. The supporting evidence: Google has registered gbrowser.com, they may be hiring people from Microsoft's Internet Explorer team, and there are reasons to think it makes sense for Google to do so...at least in terms of Google's ambitiousness.

Theappleblog.comhttp://www.theappleblog.com [Theappleblog.com] The Apple Blog » Hell Freezes Over: Evaluating the Move to Intel: Using a technology called Rosetta, which Steve described as a ‘dynamic binary translator’, applications written for the PowerPC should run emulated without any problems. The only issue here, as with the move from 68k to PPC, is one of speed, and it will be very interesting to see how Apple copes with the oft-cited ‘lack of registers’ issue when the talk turns to emulation of PPC on x86. Perhaps they are hoping that by then, Intel’s chips will be sufficiently quick as to make most of these concerns irrelevant. Personally, I’m going to wait and see.

Kottke.orghttp://www.kottke.org [Kottke.org] Automatic discovery of RSS feeds (kottke.org): Now that all of kottke.org is in MT, I can start worrying what to do about things like RSS feeds. I've been following the developments concerning the automatic discovery of RSS feeds, written about extensively on dive into mark (more here and here). Basically, you insert the following code:

Kottke.orghttp://www.kottke.org [Kottke.org] RSS advertising (kottke.org): Even before LiveJournal started putting out RSS feeds, we had artists 'syndicated' through LJ's friends lists - some of them added ways to link back to their website in their posts, so that people could order merchandise, read thru their comic strip archives, etc. Surprisingly, many of the artists have since removed ads in their posts, and have found unexpected uses for weblogs. Shannon Wheeler, the artist behind the nationally syndicated "Too Much Coffee Man", sometimes runs ideas by his weblog audience first to get their opinions on strips he is working on. That's how he decided on the punchline for his last strip, in fact.

All content by Jason Kottke (contact me) unless otherwise noted, with some restrictions on its use. Good luck will come to those who dig around in the archives. If you've reached this point by accident, I suggest panic.
