Apple to ditch Big Blue, switch to Intel Inside
[code0range.net | Drink your juice.] That is fairly surprising to me…and makes me wonder what the long term roadmap for Apple is. What with the recent revelation that sales of Laptops are surpassing Desktops for the first time, and the low power G5 nowhere in sight, it makes a bit of sense that Apple would start the transition with its PowerBooks. However, the Pentium M is a 32-bit only chip. I can only hope that this AnandTech article is correct that Apple might be targeting the dual core Pentium M for the PowerBook and the new EM64T enabled 65nm cores: the dual core Presler and the single core Cedar Mill processors on its high end PowerMacs.
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[Oscar's road!] Hell froze over... AGAIN.: I feel the same, today is too hard to sell our macs for a good price then, the only that we can do, is to shrink the power of our g4, and when we get our intel-based mac, we could put our old g4 in a small museum with the hope that someday we could show these machines to our childs, and say that this had been the beginning of a great small-step for apple.

[Ocell.Blog] Let's Get Things Straight...: line, I expect Apple will be making use of Intel's new Pentium D CPU, a 64-bit dual core processor. Imagine a PowerMac with DUALPentium D's! [/var/log/rux] Mac OS X Alter Ego: When this will be available ? Well, Steve Jobs was using Intel Pentium 4 3.6 GHz all morning in WWDC '05. Most of Mac apps will be shipped with dual binary by next year, but there's this Rossetta dynamic binary translation technology too that will run existing PowerPC apps on Intel.
[Theplaceforitall.com] Tech info Blog!: Intel Dual Core Pentium: Benchmarks!: What's interesting is the flip-flop between the Office Productivity result and the Internet Content Creation test. The dual-core Pentium 840 trails the 3.73GHz P4 Extreme Edition in the Office Productivity test by a fairly substantial amount. However, it pulls way ahead in the Internet Content Creation test, which uses a number of threaded applications, such as 3D Studio Max, Photoshop, and Premiere. The office applications clearly aren't benefiting from the 840's dual-core design, since they likely aren't threaded.
[Joshie.com] Joshers Weblog: Press Release: Apple Unleashes the Worlds Fastest ...: WWDC 2003, San Francisco—June 23, 2003—Apple® today unleashed the world’s fastest* personal computer—the Power Mac® G5—featuring the world’s first 64-bit desktop processor and the industry’s first 1 GHz front-side bus. Powered by the revolutionary PowerPC G5 processor designed by IBM and Apple, the Power Mac G5 is the first personal computer to utilize 64-bit processing technology for unprecedented memory expansion (up to 8GB) and advanced 64-bit computation, while running existing 32-bit applications natively.

[Theappleblog.com] The Apple Blog » Apple and Intel, ”Official: There are also a number of analysts who agree with me that the move seems unlikely. And again, I covered that in last weeks post, including the strange situation that would occur if Apple decided to go the Intel route of the HyperTransport bus (an AMD technology, already in use on the G5-based Macs). There’s also the potential problem that Intels 64-bit chips are nowhere near as well received as either the G5 or AMD CPUs, which could mean a potential backwards step at a time when Apple are pushing 64-bit like crazy.
