Apple to use Intel Chips?

[Archived in Entry, Intel]

[OFlaherty.dk - Bits, Bytes and Babes] If it’s made by Intel and Windows runs on it, then my comment still holds. After all, OSX is based on FreeBSD which runs on x86. Which could also mean that OSX may run on AMD chips to, who knows?

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

[Red & Yellow Make Green] Apple switching to Intel?: What does make sense is that CNet is either wrong or pulling a very gutsy move in order to claim that they “got the story first”. What I could see Steve Jobs do is use Intel to make chips for some other product, like a new iPod or a Home Media Center for the living room, or even a PDA or something of the kind. But switching all the Apple computers to Intel would basically say, “hey, we sell ipods and software now. oh and we may still have some shiny computers left as well.”

[All about Linux] Installing linux on a Mac Mini: But buying one was beyond my price range until Apple released the Mac Mini - widely touted as the budget Mac which could make the PC run for their money. For people who doesn't know - Apple brings out the Mac series of machines running their own propritery OS called OSX. This Operating system is built on a Unix base (more specifically the FreeBSD) and so can run most command line tools of unix/linux. Also unlike the PC which is built on intel architecture, the Mac computers use the G5 Chipset (PowerPC Architecture).

[Oreillynet.com] .NET for Mac OS X?: Email weblog link. Discuss. Discuss. Trackbacks. Trackbacks. Blog this. Blog this ... NET to Mac OS X, assuming Rotor on FreeBSD is the first step? ...

[Oreillynet.com] IBM Makes PowerPC Case to Linux Users: I'm not familiar with the current structure of AMD and Intel's offerings, but from what I understand the PowerPC architecture had a better design for multiple processors and multiple cores on the same chip. This design advantage could play a significant role for both Mac OS X and Linux based systems.

[Podq.com] podq live » Blog Archive » Mac OS X on a PC: This is a wonderful move for the rest of us and for Apple, because it allows everyone to collaborate and to work together to solve and improve huge amounts of code, and pave the way for greater OS’s in the future. A tad bit better than some other company’s ”Innovation” policies… Darwin is currently at version 7.0.1, which relates to the Mac OS 10.3 Panther release. The same ISO can be downloaded and burned to run for both PPC’s and x86’s. So I plan on grabbing this ISO and setting it all up on it’s own HFS partition on my hard drive.

[Nataliebuxton.com] Natalie Buxton - Love it or Shove it. » Blog Archive » they have ...: A new worm, which is a form of a Microsoft Windows PC virus, has been detected in Australia. This work is currently known as W32/Mimail, the worm deletes anti-virus software leaving your Intel PC vulnerable to other viruses and intrusions, if you are running the Microsoft Windows operating system.
