[Laptop Review] ‘Dude, Dell is going upscale! The company plans to roll out a series of high-end PCs, which the company calls the Lexus of their lineup, this fall. The machines will include both desktops and laptops priced between $1,200 and $3,500, and will sport a look similar to the companys current XPS series (pictured), which is targeted at gamers and media junkies.
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[Northcoast Exile] On The OS Wars: Which brings us to Macintosh, state of the art stupid for the most technically inept among us. A cool toy for the most technically proficient. Turn it on and there's Happy Mac. Sad Mac tells you your box is sick today. Simple, no? It's got a decent interface, much easier to use than X Windows on Linux. I wasn't a big fan of the older Mac OS. It was OK and had a nice interface (which lives on in OS X), but one-button mouse? And that keyboard. I hate the keyboard. Easy fix. You can get keyboards and mice that work with Mac but feel like a PC's. Mac, though, is both the OS and the hardware. And the hardware is expensive. Is it worth it to pay extra for the latest Mac box or PowerBook? Answer? Depends. Is all the forget-about-it stability worth an extra $500 to a grand? I don't think so, though someday, I do plan to spring for the PowerBook. It truly is the Cadillac of laptops. And I nearly bought a Minimac. I opted for a Compaq instead. (Which I sincerely regret. Dude, I should have got a Dell.)

Also featured will be what the company calls “white glove” service, which willinclude more online and in-home service options. We’re down with that, as long as they don’t send Steve.
[Blog.fastcompany.com] Fast Company Now: Yes, they're phone support sucks for individuals. But so do most companies (Don't even get me started about the Sony Crap Machine), and Dell has corporate tech support that is set in the US, god forbid. Also, the idea that they sell low-end across the board is slightly preposterous. The computer I am currently talking on is a high-end Pentium IV laptop that runs faster than most desktops on the market.

[HD For Indies] HD For Indies Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Version 0.54: Somebody complained on Macintouch about the 1080 res Batman trailer not playing back on their 600 Mhz G3 iBook. Was this flamebait, or was the guy really this dumb, excuse me, ill informed? That laptop only has an 800x600 screen, anyway - EVEN IF it were a fast enoug machine, the screen doesn't have enough pixels to show all of the HD signal anyway without scaling it down. And if you scale down, you might as well have downloaded the non-HD version anyway.
