Fedora Core 4 Test 3, the good, the bad and the supremely ugly

[Archived in Entry]

[Blind Mind’s Eye] Disclaimer: In the interest of keeping things simple because most people who “review” a distribution are prone to treat us all as though we had never seen, used or installed one, I will not be addressing the installer or anything like that. If you’ve ever installed Fedora or Red Hat Enterprise Linux, then you know what it looks like, how it behaves, etc. In that respect, as far as I can tell, nothing has changed between Fedora revisions that is worth noting here.

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

[Kiddens!] Oh yeah...I'd like to note that after weeks of lin...: This is after several weeks of messing around and reformatting that drive no less than 25 times. I still have a half billion settings to tweak to get the remote to fully work, update the look of the application, and to optimize the recording system, but my test to see if it could record The Berenstain Bears today went off without a hitch. My housemates may want to check out the web scheduling system I put a link to in Firefox on Quistis (the public email terminal).

[Blog.opennms.org] Adventures in Open Source - an OpenNMS Weblog: Once installed, you can build a Debian package of the JDK by downloading the self extracting .bin file from http://java.sun.com, and then providing the full path to the archive as the only argument to the "build-sun-jdk14" script. For example .

[Fedoranews.org] FedoraNEWS.ORG: During the Fedora Core 3 installation, I’ve chosen manual partition instead of automatic partition since I can avoid using LVM2 (Logical Volumn Manager) which might cause a problem with Dual-Boot Installation. This is not confirmed but on the first try, Anaconda Fedora Core Linux Installer failed when it was chosen with automatic partition with LVM2. On the second try, it was successful when it was chosen with manual partition as following:

[Jroller.com] Jesús M. Rodríguez's Weblog: Hibernate not suited for normalized databases On my current project our database is highly normalized to support high volumes of data. We decided to investigate persistence frameworks with a bias towards Hibernate which has a reputation for being the best persistence framework at current. While it is well suited for a situation where you have one object per table (seems like a typical paradigm for web applications), it is not suited for heavily normalized tables.

[Oreillynet.com] FreeBSD Desktop: hbx.lt="auto"; //LINK TRACKING hbx.dlf="n"; //DOWNLOAD FILTER hbx.dft="n"; //DOWNLOAD FILE NAMING hbx.elf="n"; //EXIT LINK FILTER

[Blog.dorward.me.uk] Debian Vs Fedora (David Dorward's Blog): The CD-R containing the ISO image foes to boot the P200, while theDVD gets mounted on the workstation with a symlink from//var/www/localhost/htdocs/debian to it. The installer boots upquickly, I fly through the options (very quickly without the overheadof Red Hat's pretty graphical installer). At the appropriate moment Ipoint the installer at my workstations IP address and tell it to lookin /debian.
