[Archived in Entry, Intel]

Richard Bluestein's Weblog[Richard Bluestein's Weblog] Intel's initial release of dual core processors comes in the form of this baby: the Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 840 processor. That's right, Intel has officially dropped the '4' nomenclature on their dual core parts.

http://www.theplaceforitall.com [Theplaceforitall.com] Tech info Blog!: Intel Dual Core Pentium: Benchmarks!: What's interesting is the flip-flop between the Office Productivity result and the Internet Content Creation test. The dual-core Pentium 840 trails the 3.73GHz P4 Extreme Edition in the Office Productivity test by a fairly substantial amount. However, it pulls way ahead in the Internet Content Creation test, which uses a number of threaded applications, such as 3D Studio Max, Photoshop, and Premiere. The office applications clearly aren't benefiting from the 840's dual-core design, since they likely aren't threaded.

[Blog.informationweek.com] InformationWeek Weblog: I think everyone is forgeting that intel has played a dirty game in the past by signing deals with certian pc manufacturers that allowed them to keep the majority market share and releasing cpu's before all the glitchs have been sorted out ex: centrino so they can say they were the first to have certian technology when in fact it doesnt work correctly. "If you only use intel processors we will give you a reduced price" Dell is a perfect example, this has hurt AMD in the past, I think intels days of owning the cpu market is going to come to an end since new bi-laws have been introduced that make the playing feild even for both sides. Intel may have brought out the first PC dual core precessor a week ago but you still cant order the pc....I have tried....
