You’ll lose some of the perks you might find in other competitively priced desktops, yet this model, the ThinkCentre S50 818332U, nevertheless features a fast processor, Microsoft’s beefy Windows XP Professional operating system, and of course, IBM’s renowned three-year parts and labor warranty. Anchoring the ThinkCentre S50 818332U is a speedy 2.8 GHz Intel Pentium 4 CPU, providing more than enough underlying power for most any task. Users will, however, want to double the 256 MB allotment of PC2700 DDR SDRAM memory if they plan to utilize demanding applications or engage in constant multitasking. Furthermore, gamers and 3D artists will also need to upgrade the included Intel Extreme Graphics video controller or move to a more upscale ThinkCentre model in order to experience smooth rendering of their favorite 3D programs. The ThinkCentre S50 818332U features nominal data handling options. IBM has include a smallish 40 GB hard drive on which to store your applications and files, and a CD-ROM drive through which you can play audio CDs and load programs. In its stock configuration, the unit does not support CD burning or DVD playing and writing.
