Intel Pentium-M vs AMD Turion64
[SapiensBryan Blog - The Latest Tech Breaking News Blog.] Intel Pentium-M vs AMD Turion64 Saturday 3 September 2005 @ 12:56 pm I have just come across a very well written article comparing mobile processors, both Intel Pentium-M (Dothan) and AMD Turion64. I know, there are tons of articles comparing the two, but I found this selected review is comparing as scientifically fair as possible.

[The Unrepentant Individual] Centrino is hype, but is it immoral hype?: with an IntelPentiumM processor, an Intel 855 or 915 mobile chipset, and certain Intel wireless... a significant benchmarking test comparingPentiumM and Pentium 4.

[Musings from Mars] Of Course Macs Are More Expensive... Aren't They?: (complex instruction set computing) chip like Intel's or AMD's takes about 15. This does not translate..., whereas the Celeron or PentiumM that Dell uses is a consumer-grade product that is not comparable..., in the modern world, it's become harder and harder to know when you're comparing apples with apples
[Electricdeath.com] [EED] Blog 875 - dodgy intel: the pentium m fiasco part 1: The trouble is, about the time of Barrett's announcement to the company, that the Pentium 4 'Northwood' core was out of steam and the replacement core, the 'Prescott' was delayed. This would have an absolutely insane 31-stage pipeline offset by a branch prediction unit virtually self-aware in it's complexity and to compensate for reduced performance across the board, Intel spent the spare die space (smaller transistors) on a big whack of cache - 2MB of it.

[Digg.com] Intel: we rushed the dual-core P4 to market: And to the Apple going with intel comment, I'm sure that it came down to the mobile chip, as laptops are where things are headed for mass consumption. I'm sure that Jobs went to AMD to see what thier offers would be (having heard stories about his control issues) and that more than likely they couldn't give Steve a good enough date for a low power/temp mobile processor.
