iPhoto library go boom

[donnunn.com] For those of you out of the loop, (The loop of Don, my brother and myself...) Don gave me his fat-ass G4. In the matter of about 20 minutes, I went from a 6 gig, 350 mhz iMac to Don's gently used. 130+ gig, dual 450 mhz G4 loaded with all sorts of software goodies. Granted, with the antiquated software and hardware I had been using, I couldn't figure out where the hell the power button was on the G4, much less know how to use the damn thing.
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[Shadow Voice] Microsoft: My Hobby, My Passion, My god I was dumb.: It was wierd, it was hard to use, but it had alot of open source software that was freely available on the net. Academia loved it. Despite being dog ugly it never crashed, or it crashed so gracefully none of your other running programs ever noticed. I saw the potential, and the power, but I didn't see it replacing my Windows machine any time soon.
[the darkerside to rants] The power of the Apple: I had literally outgrown the iBook by this time. Too much CPU intensive stuff was going on, and I was also getting heavier into the photo editing, so I ended up really taxing the G4 iBook to it’s max and more screen estate was clearly needed. So I bit the bullet, Apple upgraded the Powerbooks to a new G4 and although it wasn’t the dual core that many had hoped for it was still way better than I could get in the new iBook. So I shelled out 3K and bought a top of the line Powerbook G4 (incidentally, this is the machine I am typing this on right now).
[Mjtsai.com] Michael Tsai - Blog - iBook G4: It was on my desk only about a week after ordering, which is quite impressive considering how new the iBook G4 is. I had tried to order the iBook G3 (Dual USB) that it replaces direct from Apple, so as to get the developer discount. At the time, the model I was interested in was more than six months old, yet after nearly two months Apple still hadn’t shipped it. I finally got tried of waiting on hold only to be told that they didn’t know why it hadn’t shipped, but that it surely would soon.
[Oreillynet.com] Experience with OS X Tiger on G4 iBooks? - updated: I have a first generation 12" aluminum PB (867MHz), with 640M RAM. My judgment is that Tiger is significantly faster than Panther, once you get past the interminable initialization of Spotlight's database. Virtual PC under Panther was almost useless; opening an app in Windows took forever.
[Homepage.mac.com] sjh blog: Steve Hoelzer's Blog. ... Panther to Tiger; 800 MHz G4 to 2.0 GHz G5; 100 MHz system bus to 667 MHz; 1 GB PC133 RAM to 512 MB DDR 400; 80 GB hard drive to ...
[Coolmacintosh.com] CoolMacintosh.com: G4 466MHz Review: The other type of main storage (the permanent, yet slower kind) is the hard drive. This G4 comes with a 30 GB Ultra ATA hard drive, with a rotational speed of 5400 RPM. While this drive will be slower than 7200 RPM drives in current machines, legacy machines (like my beige G3) will have a hard time keeping up with the hard drive in this machine. This just adds to the overall system performance, because the hard drive is normally the main bottleneck of a system.
