Let's Get Things Straight...
[Ocell.Blog] After today's announcement from Apple I've seen a lot of people freaking out without really sitting down and understanding what's happening. I...
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[Mentally Unstable] Yes, cable is better than chocolate.: The anchors on CourtTV are being very comforting today. They know we're freaking the fuck out regardless of our stances. Half the reason I watch that station above all others is because they actually understand that their audience consists of actual human beings who are emotionally invested to varying degrees. The anchors are mostly women, but the men they do have are exceptional.
[Dan Dickinson: The Primary Vivid Weblog] Awww, Freak Out: The part that made me actually accept this all - curing the slight hyperventilation, dizzyness, and other maladies - is not that there are 100 of the developer boxes around the conference for monkeying with, not that there's a new version of Xcode, and not that Steve says it's all going to be okay. The warm blanket here is the confirmation that Apple's had OS X86 - and for those wondering, the dev boxes are P4s, so enough with the "Intel might build PPC chips" crap - for every iteration of OS X.
[vaguelyaware.com] Apple & Intel: Here is the real interesting part, the new Apple computers will be able to run Windows, so the last reason not to buy Apple hardware just left. I’m sure MS might be a bit more pressured to perform when Apple can say, “well try our OS which we bundle for free with the hardware, and if you don’t like it, you can load windows on to it.” Yes, nails on a chalkboard to most apple fans, but apple is a business, and that is financially a sound investment. People will then be able to try out, fall in love with OSX, and get hooked on apple hardware and software. No, OSX won’t run on a Dell, thank you SJ (I hate dell).

[Securityawareness.blogspot.com] Security Awareness for Ma, Pa and the Corporate Clueless: The Anti-Virus manufactures have been caught more than once over the last 5 years trying to pour Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) into the minds of those who use Macs, but for the most part, those manufacturers have been caught with their pants down around their ankles, as they keep trying to drum up business in the Mac community. Yes, those of us who use Macs do need to not become complacent when it comes to security, but we tend to ignore the "cry wolf" mentality we hear after one or two times. We are accustomed to not having malware issues with our machines. And believe me when I say that if any do attempt to trash Macs, we will be on it like white on rice.
[W-a-s-a-b-i.com] ããã³ » Blog Archive » Pantherized: File Valut encrypts your entire Home folder using AES-128 and automatically encrypts/decrypts your files on-the-fly without you even noticing that its happening, according to Apple anyways. The truth is that you will not notice it happening if you are working with relatively small files and/or a small number of files, but it WILL make you Mac SLOWER and USE MORE DISK SPACE (approximatelly 2-3 Gb for a 10-14Gb Home folder, as in my case). Actions such as copying my iTunes music library (~7Gb) from the external FireWire hard drive to my Home folder took nearly 30 minutes (because it does not just copy it all, but also has to encrypt it) and moving my Photo libraries (another ~7Gb) took another 30 minutes, but I guess thats reasonable considering the amounts of data being moved and encrypted at the same time.
[Tuaw.com] The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW): But surely announcing the dropping of PowerPC means that they've just killed most sales of hardware for the next year? I can't tell from the coverage so far whether it'll be easy for existing software to be made dual platform, but even if it is, Apple is basically saying that PowerPC processors are rubbish. Why, then, would people buy a computer that uses one?
[Makeyougohmm.com] Things That ”¦ Make You Go Hmm: Tiger has been Apple’s best selling OS ever with nearly 10 million units already sold. The Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) was the most attended in the last 10 years. Watch the WWDC 2005 Steve Jobs keynote in Quicktime format here.
[Matt.pintglass.org] Big Apple Blog » Twin Remembrance: Anyway, we did click lots of photos on our trip but most of our photos are in storage back in Oregon. Over the holidays when we went back out West we did have the chance to go through our photos and we found a couple of pics that are particularly meaningful now. See for yourself.
